3rd Generation Winner
The IBF Multi Nation Judo Championships was held in Kortrijk
Belgium on Saturday May 27 as President IBF UK I felt duty bound to attend as
it was just across the channel I have not been at the event for some years
always sending a representative. Have to admit I have lost my enthusiasm for
Judo with all the rule changes. It seems that Judo is more about what you cannot
do then what you can do.
My grandson Lewis Clarke asked for me to take him and Oh Boy
I am glad I did. His nerves excitement rejuvenated me and when we walked into
the venue I was invigorated. The memories of the past 50 years of competing,
coaching etc. all came flooding back and more was to come.
17-year-old Lewis won not only his age group but also the
adult section with some brilliant throws a real Clarke. What Lewis did not
realise was that he was the 3rd generations of Clarke to win this
event, I had won the event throughout the 1970’s my son John went on win many
in later years
Unless you have been there it is hard to explain the
excitement of watching not just a club member but also a family member, I felt
a very Proud Grandfather. Lewis is
joining the Navy later this year maybe we will see a Combined Services Judo
Champion who knows

A couple of people from my club are interested, I can take up to 7 in my car. Cost approximately £15.00 to £20.00 per person, plus £15.00 entry for competitors, or if you wish to go in your own car, £80.00 for the train.
