English Sambo Federation Announcement
The English
Sambo Federation are pleased to announce that we have appointed Stephen
Sweetlove MBE, FBAPT to the position of English National Coach.
Stephen is a
former physical training and self-defence instructor with the British Police
Service. He has been involved in sambo since 1985 and has won the British sambo
title eight times. His first title was in 1985 followed in 1986, 1987, 1988,
1989 and 1990 after which he decided to retire from competition. In 1992
he came out of retirement to compete and again won titles in 1992, 1996 and
1998.
Stephen has represented Great Britain at two FIAS World
championships and two European championships. He has competed at tournaments
throughout the Soviet Union/Russia including winning medals in 1986 and 1987 at
the famous Anatoly Kharlampiev Memorial tournament held in Moscow and in the
same years winning bronze medals at the international tournaments held in
Kaliningrad. Stephen has also been silver world medallist at the FIAS World
Masters championships.
Since his final
retirement from competition Stephen has coached seven British champions, five
of whom went on to represent GB at World, European and international level.
Stephen is
looking forward to working with Team England to build on their success at the
Commonwealth Championships and he is in the process of selecting his coaching
team which will be announced in a few days.
